  • On March 8th 2011, Women for Women International is organizing a global campaign, “Join me on the Bridge,” which asks women, children and men to join together on the 100th anniversary of International women’s Day on bridges throughout the world, making a public statement that “Stronger Women Build Bridges of Peace.”
  • The idea for Join me on the Bridge came from the Country Directors of WfWI’s programs in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Women from communities often at odds decided to come together on a bridge which borders their two countries to stand up for peace and to end violence against women.

Simple Design with Great Satisfaction

This retired couple wanted to have a way to dress up the windows for their master bedroom and bath without obstructing much of the view. They also wanted new bedding that would coordinate well with the existing wall colors. Their love for color and traditional design led me to use this beautiful flower patterned linen blend fabric with cheerful colors to bring the space to live!

Fabric and Trim proposed for windows and pillows.

Custom-made panels and valance dress up the windows just enough to bring cohesiveness to the space. After not being able to find a “ready made” bedspread of the color they wanted, they resulted for also having it custom-made.  It was important for the clients to have bed dressing that was light in weight. I selected a light fabric with a sheen to contrast against the linen textured pillows but that contemplated the colors.  The bedspread was loom quilted with 4.5 oz. fiberfill/sq. yd. in the “Onion” style the client selected.

The vertical blinds in the bathroom were not loved at all, they gave the space a much dated look and did not contemplated the straw roman shade on the French Door. We replaced the vertical blinds with the same mini blinds as the bedroom window and added color and pattern with a valance that was brought all the way to the ceiling to give the impression of the windows being larger.  The sheered straight panel on the French Door allows for privacy and light at the same time, while the hour-glass panel adds a touch of style.

This was a simple project for me to do but quite satisfying to be able to bring joy to my clients. The look on their faces after coming in to see their new room was quite different from the somewhat puzzeled look they had when I presented the small pieces of fabrics trying to get them to envision what I saw. Nothing ever makes up for the finished product. It means a lot to me that they trusted me to take what was daunting to them and give them the vision they wanted.

Fall 2010 Line – Great Patterns!

Out of the 15 new fabric collections Carole Fabrics introduced this Fall, here are my absolute favorites!

I love Highland‘s large scale prints and “in season” colors; Bold Simplicity has great texture and casual patterns, Natural Wonder seems just timeless with its classic tones, suitable for a less feminine look.

How do I see myself using these? Mixing patterns and colors makes it all much more interesting to look at and fun to work with. If your place seems to feel dull and you might be reserved about color, think about adding a contrast with large scale patterned fabrics. Small patterns tend to “disappear” and seem solid at a distance.

Highland Park A brand new collection of prints on cotton and linen blend base cloth in styles that range from bold and bright to subtle and sophisticated.

Bold SimplicityBold, vibrant rich reds, intense indigos, and deep, dark chocolates colors are paired with small scale multi color paisley prints, a super soft washed matte lasse’, cotton stripes, mini geometrics.

Natural Wonder Classic, small scale prints are accented with woven stripes, and checks to create a wonderful assortment of multipurpose weight coordinates in a color palette of neutrals from creamy light tones, to jet black with crisp white accents.
