Simple Design with Great Satisfaction
This retired couple wanted to have a way to dress up the windows for their master bedroom and bath without obstructing much of the view. They also wanted new bedding that would coordinate well with the existing wall colors. Their love for color and traditional design led me to use this beautiful flower patterned linen blend fabric with cheerful colors to bring the space to live!

Fabric and Trim proposed for windows and pillows.
Custom-made panels and valance dress up the windows just enough to bring cohesiveness to the space. After not being able to find a “ready made” bedspread of the color they wanted, they resulted for also having it custom-made. It was important for the clients to have bed dressing that was light in weight. I selected a light fabric with a sheen to contrast against the linen textured pillows but that contemplated the colors. The bedspread was loom quilted with 4.5 oz. fiberfill/sq. yd. in the “Onion” style the client selected.
The vertical blinds in the bathroom were not loved at all, they gave the space a much dated look and did not contemplated the straw roman shade on the French Door. We replaced the vertical blinds with the same mini blinds as the bedroom window and added color and pattern with a valance that was brought all the way to the ceiling to give the impression of the windows being larger. The sheered straight panel on the French Door allows for privacy and light at the same time, while the hour-glass panel adds a touch of style.

This was a simple project for me to do but quite satisfying to be able to bring joy to my clients. The look on their faces after coming in to see their new room was quite different from the somewhat puzzeled look they had when I presented the small pieces of fabrics trying to get them to envision what I saw. Nothing ever makes up for the finished product. It means a lot to me that they trusted me to take what was daunting to them and give them the vision they wanted.

The Right Wall-covering
Amazing what new wall-covering can do to a space!
This well-traveled history lover and book writer was challenged by the wall-covering of his late 1970′s home he had just moved into. The white lattice and blue background wallpaper was over powering the entire kitchen, dining area and family room.
I proposed to strip off the wallpaper and replace it with new paper for the dining area and kitchen, but use paint for the family room. During my planning and research I came across the perfect wallpaper, a sage green fleur-de-lis pattern paper from Thibaut’s Historic Homes Collection with a story of its own. (How appropriate! – I thought!) It is a pattern reproduced from one of the many pre-Civil War era papers uncovered by the owners of the Maplewood Farmhouse in Harrisonburg Virginia. Perfect for his English Country decor!

To help give my client a realistic visual of the dining area with the new paper, I created this computer image to the left. You can see how it compares to the real life picture to the right.

Kitchen After
There’s not much natural light coming in the space so I wanted to keep the walls with a cool hue. After finding the wallpaper then it was time to find the right paint color. Sherwin William’s Soften Green #6177 was the right shade. Even the ceilings took a new coat with a “lighter version” of the same color – Sherwin William’s Liveable Green #6176. Both in a matte finish.
